| Georges Mecs: passion and courage on the Green |
|
His one-handed swing has become a winner on the golf courses of Réunion Island, at the Touessrok Golf Course in Mauritius and even at the Golf National of Guyancourt in Ile de France, Paris. Georges Mecs is a passionate golfer who has been able to overcome the challenge of a handicapped right hand. Recently sponsored by Le Touessrok Golf Course, Georges Mecs is definitely an example for the community of golfers.
Georges Mecs took up golf at the age of 25. At 39, he unfortunately undergoes severe problems at his right hand. In spite of nine surgeries, he loses the ability to use this hand. He then abandons golf for some twelve years. However, passion for golf is so strong that Georges Mecs, with the help of two Golf Pros, starts anew and develops a one-handed technique. But more than simple technique, Georges Mecs also shows that a powerful will, along with a lot of work at the Practice, enables a way ahead.
In 2010, Georges Mecs starts the year with a 38 Handicap and sets a 24 Handicap limit for the end of the year. Six months later, he reaches a 21 Handicap and starts playing in some tournaments. He finishes second at the “Trophée Mercedes Le Touessrok” in May 2010 on the Saint-Gilles-les-Hauts golf course in Reunion Island. This awards him the “Challenge Mercedes Le Touessrok” and he participates at the “Trophée Louis Roederer” in August 2010 at the Ile aux Cerfs Le Touessrok Golf Course in Mauritius. Georges Mecs wins this competition and players present witness his enthusiasm and communicative joy during this competition where guests of Le Touessrok together with local and regional players compete.
These good results enable Georges Mecs to participate in the “Internationaux de France Handigolf” end of August 2010 at the Golf National of Guyancourt in Paris. This tournament, part of the “Paragolf European Tour”, hosts 80 players from 15 different countries. Created in 2005 by Handigolf in order to promote high-level golf, the “Internationaux de France Handigolf” are organised alternately with the “Championnat de France”.
Georges Mecs, for his first participation at this tournament, takes a very good tenth rank among 26 participants in his category. Sponsored by Le Touessrok for this first major “international” tournament, Georges Mecs has lived through a great experience. “It was a unique experience for me with an exciting sense of competition and an equally high-spirited friendship. I am proud to state today that passion for golf has overcome the handicap challenge. Now, I am keen to go further and participate in other international tournaments. One day, I even hope to be part of the French national Handigolf team. To be able to attain this, I must look for sponsors and will strive towards this,” states Georges Mecs.
We can but admire him for this great show of courage and passion

Former student of Karl Lagerfeld and Jil Sander, then Head of Collection for Kenzo Jeans, Barbara Rihl has created an exclusive and limited-edition bag for Le Touessrok
Barbara Rihl’s association with Le Touessrok has given birth to an exquisite beach bag with soft tones evocative of a cool Mauritian landscape. Frangipani flower-white, “sunny” taupe tones with a red streak which reminds one of the blooming hibiscus flowers, natural material such as cotton and leather: here is the perfect mix for an exclusive Barbara Rihl Le Touessrok bag. Side zippers are quite helpful to slip in the comfy towels of Le Touessrok. The final designer touch lies in the white leather patches in line with the travel theme of the bag.
Prior to this creation, Barbara Rihl spent some time for inspiration at Le Touessrok. She has been able to get the feel of the natural and contemporary elegance of the resort without forgetting the specificity of the tropical warmth of Mauritius. Le Touessrok is such an elegant hotel where walls of off-white stucco are set off by chocolate brown wicker furniture and splashes of distinctive colour. The porcelain-tiled floors, soft fabrics and decorative panels reminiscent of traditional Creole designs complete this idyllic picture. Barbara Rihl, a travel aficionado, has not left aside the art of details. Indeed, she inspires herself of distant handicraft traditions whilst utilising the raw yet sophisticated materials she is fond of.
“Le Touessrok is a ‘great’ lady but she can also be the trendiest of resorts. We really appreciate that the talented Barbara Rihl teamed up with the hotel to create this exclusive limited-edition Le Touessrok Barbara Rihl bag. This unique creation is a true reflection of the chic and contemporary feel of the resort,” says Sjefke Jansen, General Manager of Le Touessrok.
The creations of Barbara Rihl are available in over 1000 point of sales across the world (Galeries Lafayette, Le Printemps, in her own branded boutique at 1 rue du 29 Juillet in the first district in Paris, at Isetan in Japan...). Barbara Rihl is fond of travelling and her creations celebrate this state of mind. No doubt that those who fall in for the Barbara Rihl style will wish to discover Le Touessrok.
